Hours: 5–8 hours a week
Compensation: Paid via Hospitality Services Dining Dollars up to $700 (split over two semesterly installments)

Position Overview

Are you passionate about content creation, student life, and social media? Join the University of Guelph's Hospitality Services and Student Housing Services teams as a Student Content Creator!

In this dual-role position, you'll represent student life through two vital lenses: food and residence. From covering dining experiences and new menu features to showcasing move-in day and life in residence, you'll help tell the authentic story of what it's like to live and eat on campus.

Key Responsibilities

Content Creation

  • Capture photos, short videos, and stories that reflect life in campus dining and residence
  • Create content that aligns with both departments' brand voices, priorities, and values
  • Represent the student perspective authentically and inclusively

Idea Generation

  • Pitch creative content ideas based on lived experience and social trends
  • Actively participate in mandatory bi-weekly planning and brainstorming meetings
  • Help build community engagement through digital storytelling

Editing & Submission

  • Edit and deliver content with a focus on quality, clarity, and visual appeal
  • Submit files to a shared folder with appropriate naming conventions
  • Respond to coordinator feedback and make edits as required

Content Themes & Types

You'll work across a variety of themes and create diverse content, both individually and as a team including:

  • Hospitality Services: Daily menu features, sustainability, wellness, chef stories, dining hall tours, promos, best spots to eat
  • Student Housing Services: Room tours, residence hacks, event coverage, mental health tips, testimonials, how-to videos, best residence study spots
  • Cross-Departmental Topics: Meal planning in residence, living & dining on campus, sustainable student living, how-to videos

Compensation & Points System

You’ll earn points for each task completed. Our points system is based on a set number of assignments and meetings completed each semester. Creators will be compensated with Dining Dollars up to a combined total of $700. Installments will be made each semester based on meetings attended and assignments completed.

Creators are expected to attend 7 meetings and complete 8 assignments per semester to be awarded the full compensation amount. (Maximum 15 points per semester). 

Point Distribution:

  • Meeting Attendance – 1 point per meeting (7 points per semester)
  • Content Assignments – 1 point per assignment (8 points per semester)

Skills & Qualifications

Required

  • Currently enrolled University of Guelph student (on-campus and off-campus students welcome)
  • Strong knowledge of Instagram and/or TikTok trends and tools
  • Excellent communication, time management, and creative skills
  • Comfort with capturing and editing photos/videos on a smartphone
  • Passion for storytelling and student life
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

Preferred

  • Familiarity with Edits, InShot, Lightroom Mobile, or similar editing tools
  • Experience with photography or videography (personal or professional)
  • Living on campus and/or actively engaged on campus
